COMIC-STRIP FOR PEACE

A project initiated by Marcel N.B. Yungi (Artist-Peace Activist)

When we watch the news on T.V., read newspapers,...day doesn't pass without
violence or a threat to violence. Our daily life is full of fear of harm.
Deep seat hatred, selfishness, injustice which have resulted in wars,
oppression, environmental deterioration...are tearing the human family
apart.
The solutions to bring about and maintain a better planet lie in our hands,
in our commitment to do what is good to ourselves, to others and to the
environment.
Therefore, COMIC-STRIP FOR PEACE is an artistic project carried out by Jipa
Moyo COMICS(jipa moyo, a kiswahili term meaning take courage) and whose
objectives are:

-to educate peace,

-to create awareness on the observance of September 21st of each year as the

international Day of Peace,

-to promote moral values.

MEDIUM

To fullfil it’s objectives, the project is using comic strip art as medium.
Comic-Strips are a wonderful tool to promote peace. They are as effective as
other media and are not only educational but also entertaining.

TARGET GROUP

This project targets youth. It has been proven that youths constitute a
vital group of people in the society capable of making things to happen
(whether positive or negative). In this project, we feel that it's very
important to arm the youth with a spirit of goodness and peace. When this
spirit is cultivated in them, they'll grow up with confidence and
determination to achieve what is good and peaceful, then this world will be
a comfortable place to live in.

THE ADVENTURES OF KIALU FOR PEACE

Among other publications, The Adventures of KIALU for Peace is the main
educational publication. It's aserial designed in an interesting way to
promote justice, tolerance, dialogue, love, reconciliation......

Its objective is to invite all the youth of this world, as future leaders,
decision markers,... to develop the love of goodness and peace. KIALU is a
brave girl living with her parents in a small village in Africa.

One day, the rebels at war invaded their village, they destroyed it and
committed some atrocities and then abducted her with so many other girls and
boys....In the midst of the forest, Kialu succeeded to escape....She was
crying and desperate when she came across a very old woman who gave her some
powers. Two of those powers being the ability to fly like a bird and to talk
in people's mind in order to change their thinking. Kialu will use those
powers to do good and promote peace. She's not perfect, she'll make mistakes
and learn from them.

Her adventures is divided into several series numbered chronologically and
published regularly and distributed free of charge to schools, youth clubs,
public libraries, families.....

Each series focuses on a particular issue. The issues include landmines,
genocide, terrorism, nuclear weapon, social injustice, refugees, school
violence, HIV/AIDS, the use of child-soldiers....

Kialu the charismatic heroin of the series will always be there with her
white dress and magic stick. She'll interact with people of all ages, races,
languages, cultures,...she'll travel all over the world campaigning for
peace on earth.
Sincerely, this girl deserves our support.

FUTURE PROSPECTS

* To launch a website to enable a worldwide view of Kialu.

* To produce animated film version of Kialu.
